Staging Techniques to Sell Your Home

When selling your home, knowing how to spruce it up and make it look most appealing to buyers can make a world of difference.  Here are some simple, easy tips on how to make your home sparkle.

Clean, Clean, Clean

  • Having your house cleaned from top to bottom is critical for a good showing and could save you thousands!  Make sure to scrub baseboards, clean windows to perfection, and have the carpets shampooed.  It would be wise to have a professional cleaning crew come in and make your home shine!

Cut the Clutter

  • When prospective buyers are looking at a house, the fewer distractions the better.  Buyers want to visualize the home as their own.  To help paint a picture for buyers, remove collectibles, family pictures, and other items that you've collected over the years.  A general rule of thumb is to halve the amount of clutter in your house.

Go Neutral

  • Make your home appealing to all types of buyers by using neutral colors throughout the house.  It is much easier for a potential buyer to look at a beige room and picture it being a bright color than vice versa.  Furthermore, neutral colors tend to make a room look bigger.  A bigger room means more money for you. When selling your home, play it safe with neutrals.

Clear a Path

  • Survey the house, determine which areas are high traffic, and clear out furniture in these spaces.  This will create an illusion of more space and openness, making your house seem bigger!

Don't Skip the Curb Appeal

  • First impressions are lasting impressions.  Make sure your house is appealing from the first moment buyers see it.  Remember to keep the grass cut and watered, fix any cracks in the driveway, and invest in some basic landscaping. If you really want to wow buyers, purchase some potted flowers and/or plants and position them outside of your front door for a grand entrance.
